Dana Fonteneau, MFT - The Psychology of Performance™

"Working with Dana on my own performance and watching the complete transformations of the other performers in the class was enlightening and awe-inspiring. Performance can be so much more joyful and powerful (from both sides of the stage!) when the performers learn to own their experiences. This class should be offered at every music school and conservatory- it's so important!" Class Participant

Performing artists have unique challenges.  Many of us have preconceived notions of what we believe success is, what "making it" is supposed to look like. These standards, coming from teachers, parents or the artistic community around us, are often programed in our psyches early in life.  We then pursue a path of education and training  in quest of learning to become the best performer or artist that we can be.  In the profession, however, we are constantly faced with challenges such as how to make a living as a professional, how to deal with chronic pain, issues of self care, time management, performance anxiety, and dealing with the stress of a competitive field to name just a few. We have been trained to hone our skills in our art form, but not necessarily to know ourselves deeply in relationship to our art To know yourself gives you an experience of empowerment and allows you CHOICE. This allows you the option to respond to your world from a place of power, rather than react from a place of unconscious habit.

In working with the Psychology of Performance, I  help you understand the unconscious beliefs, thoughts and patterns that show up in how you meet your world. I will guide and support you as you learn to release habits that no longer serve you and replace them with a deeper understanding of who you are and how you want to be in the world.  From there I help you clarify how you want to share your art with the world around you.  Whether it is getting more concerts, building a private studio, or learning better interpersonal skills, learning how to manage your time and priorities or increase your health and self care...  I am here to help you become the most resourceful and empowered person you can be, with yourself and with your art. I invite you to give yourself permission to reawaken your passion, your joy and your aliveness to become the greatest you that you can be!

The Psychology of Performance™ is an experiential journey from performance anxiety to performance empowerment. This process explores the psychological aspects of performing - from mental preparation and visualization to successful practice techniques and audition preparation. Sometimes training, guidance and practice is not enough.  Many artists despite great preparation, feel unfulfilled on stage, dissatisfied in performance, uninspired and discouraged about their futures. The Psychology of Performance™ is a mind/body tool kit that will identify and positively affect old habits, thought patterns, and unconscious beliefs that  sabotage performance and career fulfillment.  This process will  help you clarify your goals, become conscious of your process and embrace your dreams, freeing you to become the most empowered performer you can be!

In addition to classes, presentations and masterclasses, I also work privately with individuals, groups, ensembles and companies. This can be in person or long distance by phone or teleconference.
